WHAT IS TAMANG WOMEN ART?

Tamang Women Art started in 2005. We support single tamang women from the region Langtang around the Himalaya mountains in Nepal.

WHAT IS TAMANG?

The Tamang are ethnic Tibetan people constituting around 5% of Nepal's population. They have a close relationchip to Tibetans and Sherpa and generally follow Tibetan Buddhism.

The name Tamang, normally it is Tamag in Tibetan, means horse warriors. Tamags were border police sent by king Trisong of Tibet around 755. They are also good mountaineers and trekking guides. Read more on Wikipedia.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

We are independant. This means: we are not bound to donations or sponsors. Our women are mostly widowed, handicapped or were formerly abused. Now, they are able to work on products made of 100% ecological and nature-based materials like nettle or hemp and are guaranteed to get a fair payment in a save working environment.

We don't make big money. While we hardly could achieve anything with it in the western world, it is still a good amount in Nepal. Our women's costs of living and the education of their children are completely covered by the sells of their products.

HOW CAN I HELP?

You are able to support us by purchase of our products.

We are also able to help find a volonteer-based job for women who are into e.g. needlework in Nepal, Langtang. Don't hesitate to contact us for further information.
